The safest way to save the CSV files for the generator is to use LibreOffice (formerly OpenOffice). By saving the CSV in UTF-8, we can ensure that special characters are converted to a proper HTML Entity by the generator and will display in the user's browser as intended.

It is recommended that you make all changes to an Excel document and only use the CSV for the generator.

1. Open the XLS file you want to use in a generator with LibreOffice.

2. Then select from the menu File -> Save As...

3. When the prompt comes up, change the file type to "Text CSV (.csv)" and make sure you check "Edit filter settings"

4. Then make sure that the "Character set" is set to "Unicode (UTF-8)"

5. Hit "OK"

This will be the CSV that you select to use with the generator.
