Special Characters:
To avoid special characters from popping up in your generated file, the best way is:
Use Google Docs from your Google Drive™!
The best method to avoid having odd characters in the output files is to use Google Docs and connect to your Google Drive™. Once you authorize the Pearson Page Generators to access your Google Drive, you can then have the option to select a spreadsheet in your Google Drive without the need to export or save to your computer!
However, you also have the option of using a spreadsheet from your computer. If you choose to do so, here are the options:
Use Google Docs export:
- Use Google Docs to manage your spreadsheet and select from the menu File -> Download as -> CSV (current sheet)
Use LibreOffice/OpenOffice
Use Microsoft Office (any version)
If using Microsoft Office, you
must do the following:
- Replace all smart double quotes (“ ”) with a standard quote mark "
- Replace all smart single quotes or smart apostrophes (’) with a standard quote mark '
- Replace all em dashes (—) with either 2 hyphens (--) or the HTML code —
- Replace all en dashes (–) with either a hyphen (-) or the HTML code –
- Replace all horizontal ellipsis (…) with either periods with spaces (. . .) or the HTML code …
- You should replace other special characters or letters with accent marks with their HTML Entity
If you do not change these particular character, you will notice odd letters appearing in the generated files.
